The Bureau of Parks & Urban Forestry, within the Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space, plants and maintains all street and public trees in the City of Norfolk. A street tree is defined as a tree growing in the public right-of-way, such as between the sidewalk and curb area in front of your home. Street trees are also sometimes located within the lawn area. Requests for street trees are accepted on an ongoing basis. After the site is examined for feasibility and a suitable species is determined, trees are provided on a first come, first served basis during the planting season (October 15 to March 31). Click here to download the Street Tree Request form. Click here to download the Tree Permit Application. Submit form(s) to the Bureau of Parks & Urban Forestry, 2839 Dana St., Norfolk, VA 23509. For questions and more information, call the City Forester at (757) 823-4023. Homeowners should refer to Chapter 45 of the Norfolk City Code for more information on statutes pertaining to trees. |
